FAWM: Help Center
Find support resources and documentation for the February Album Writing Month challenge, the fawm.org website, and the global community of "fawmers."
Welcome to Song Sprint!
Note: This site was written with FEBRUARY in mind
FAWM is currently hosting a Summer Song Sprint to write 5 songs in 9 days (July 4-12, 2026).
This is a new experiment we are trying!
Regular FAWM documentation on this Help Center mostly still applies, but keep in mind that some details may vary (the song count goal, start/end dates, color schemes in screen shots, etc.). Thanks for understanding!
If you can't find what you need, feel free to ask in the "Tech Help & Feedback" section of the FAWM forums. If all else fails, you can email [email protected] to contact the volunteer organizers, and we'll do our best to help!
What's New?
The volunteer team has been hard at work! We added several new tweaks, quality-of-life improvements, and long-requested features to the website for the Song Sprint:
- Added more audio formats (
.aac,.m4a,.mp3,.ogg) for FAWM hosting! - Added notifications if you haven't logged in for days and have unread comments!
- Added a text formatting toolbar!
- Improved image hosting for mobile devices!
- Created a site "freeze" (read-only) date so you can archive without FOMO!
- Wrote a manifesto to help articulate FAWM's mission and goals!
What Is FAWM?
FAWM is a group of creatives dedicated to making new music, sharpening songwriting skills, and growing in community. The flagship February Album Writing Month challenge has been going since 2004, inspiring more than a quarter million songs by artists all over the world.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is FAWM all about?
Effectively there are three goals:
- To write 14 songs in 28 days
- To branch out and grow as a musician (whatever your level)
- To grow in a community of like-minded creatives
Who can participate?
Anyone with an internet connection and a desire to write songs!
You must be 16 years and older to register at the fawm.org website.
Participation is free, though donations are encouraged.
What counts as a song?
Pop songs, instrumentals, "sound art," sketches, whatever.
The goal is to be challenged and have fun—whatever that means to you. Let your muse fly free!
When can I start posting songs?
The FAWM website unlocks the ability to post songs posting midnight February 1 at the international date line (once it is February everywhere in the world!) You are of course free to start writing at midnight your local time.
I donated, where are my 'rock hands' and file hosting?
If we couldn’t automatically link your donation to your FAWM profile, the moderators have a queue and will take care of it manually within 24 hours. Hang tight!
How long is the FAWM website up?
fawm.org opens in late January, and stays up for the first few weeks of March. That way, you can continue listening and commenting on music you missed while you were busy writing your own songs!
FAWM goes back into hibernation on March 15 for the remainder of the year.
What happens to my data afterward?
Each year, FAWM is a completely new experience. So your songs, comments, and forum posts will be wiped clean for the following FAWM. Your profile and social connections (e.g., follows) persist from year to year, but everything else is deleted!
We strongly encourage you to revisit the website in early March to "export" your songs, comments, and other activities using the archive feature!
